Our Bespoke Curriculum

"Keeping Ourselves Happy, Healthy and Safe"

The Nature of PSHEE

PSHEE plays a central role in developing the knowledge, skills, and personal attributes children need to thrive as individuals and members of society. It equips children with the tools to form healthy, respectful relationships, understand the importance of physical and mental wellbeing, and make safe, informed choices—in real life and online.

As outlined in the DfE RSHE statutory guidance and the Telford & Wrekin local offer, PSHEE also helps children navigate the complexities of growing up, including understanding emotions, identity, and diversity. It creates a safe space for exploring values, building resilience, and developing a strong sense of self-worth and social responsibility.

We recognise that children are increasingly facing challenges—such as loneliness, anxiety, and uncertainty. PSHEE provides them with the foundations to believe in themselves, set goals, and overcome difficulties. It also promotes the development of personal attributes such as kindness, honesty, integrity, and generosity—all essential for becoming happy, successful, and productive adults.

Curriculum Intent

We believe that every child should be valued and understood—academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. The core purpose of our PSHEE and RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) curriculum is to help pupils grow into independent, healthy, and responsible individuals who are confident in themselves and respectful of others.

Through our curriculum, we aim to:

  • Help children understand themselves and others, developing empathy, social skills, and a sense of belonging

  • Support children in building self-esteem, recognising their own rights and responsibilities as citizens

  • Promote positive relationships, including how to navigate friendships, family dynamics, and digital communication

  • Prepare children for life in a diverse and ever-changing society, celebrating difference and inclusion

  • Nurture emotional wellbeing, supporting children to understand feelings, cope with anxiety, and build resilience

  • Encourage healthy lifestyles, including physical health, personal hygiene, and age-appropriate understanding of body changes

  • Teach children about risk and help them make safe, informed decisions across a range of contexts

Curriculum Implementation

Our curriculum follows DfE statutory RSHE guidance and is delivered through a bespoke, carefully sequenced programme using high-quality resources, including:

  • The Jigsaw PSHE scheme – a progressive programme focused on emotional literacy, resilience, and mental and physical health. Jigsaw also incorporates mindfulness to support focus and emotional regulation

  • The Expect Respect Toolkit – age-appropriate lessons that promote positive, respectful relationships

  • Stonewall resources – used to explore LGBT+ inclusion in an age-appropriate way, helping children understand the importance of equality and acceptance

These resources support the delivery of discreet weekly lessons, but PSHEE is also woven throughout the wider curriculum, including:

  • Religious Education, Science, Computing, and PE

  • Assemblies and collective worship, which stimulate and nurture children’s spiritual, moral, social, and cultural curiosity

  • Real-life experiences, positive behaviour systems, and responsive teaching, when relevant issues arise within the school or local community

Children learn that families come in all shapes and sizes, and we promote inclusive messages throughout our curriculum so that every child knows it’s okay to be themselves.
