Safety Squad

At Wrockwardine Wood Infant School and Oakengates Nursery Federation, keeping everyone safe is something we all share responsibility for. Our Safety Squad makes sure children have a voice in keeping our school a safe, happy, and caring place.

Who Is in the Safety Squad?

We have one representative from each class, chosen by their peers. These children meet regularly with staff to talk about safety in school, at home, and in the community.

What Do We Do?

The Safety Squad:

  • Shares ideas and concerns from their peers about keeping safe

  • Talks about any safety worries and suggests solutions

  • Helps remind everyone of our school safety rules

  • Works with staff to make sure children know how to get help if they are worried

What We Talk About

We discuss different safety topics throughout the year, for example:

  • Online safety – using the internet in a kind and responsible way

  • Sun safety – wearing hats, drinking water, and using sunscreen in hot weather

  • Water safety – being safe near paddling pools, swimming pools, rivers, and the sea

  • PANTS rules – understanding personal safety and our bodies

  • Positive relationships – being kind, respectful, and helpful to others

  • Road safety – how to cross safely and stay visible

  • Stranger awareness – knowing what to do if approached by someone you do not know

  • Fire safety – keeping safe around matches, candles, and in an emergency

  • Playground safety – using equipment sensibly and looking after friends when we play

  • Healthy habits – washing hands, eating well, and looking after our bodies

Why It’s Important

The Safety Squad helps everyone to:

  • Understand how to stay safe in different situations

  • Remember our school behaviour expectations: Be Kind, Be Honest, Work Hard

  • Live our motto: Love, Laugh, Learn

  • Follow our school values of Equity, Excellence, Hard Work, Kindness, and Honesty

How We Share Our Ideas

Safety Squad representatives meet with their peers after each meeting, sharing what was discussed and listening to any new ideas or concerns to bring back next time.

This way, every child’s voice can be heard, and together we can make our school the safest and happiest place it can be.
