We’re excited to welcome you to the Swallows class page, where you’ll find regular updates on what your child is learning each week. Here, we’ll share information about the engaging topics, activities, and key skills your child will be developing in Year 2.

Week 14
This week in science we have been learning about personal hygiene. We used glitter to show how germs spread. We discussed the importance of washing our hands to prevent germs from spreading.
Week 13
This week in Swallows we have been learning about position and direction. We have been finding out where objects are using language such as: besides, on top of, next to, behind.
Week 12
In art we have been learning about geometrical patterns. We used different shapes to make rangoli patterns. We learnt how the rangolis had to be symmetrical.
Week 11
In PSHEE we have been learning about different jobs people have and stereotypes about different jobs. We discussed what we might want to be when we are older.
Week 10
This week we have making posters for antibullying week. We learned to stay STOP and understand that bullying is Several Times On Purpose.
Week 9
This week in history we have started learning about The Victorians. We looked at how school life was different and the way the dressed.
Week 8
This week in PE we have come to the end of our unit Fundamentals skills, where they children applied all the learning to be able to skip.

Week 6
Maths – Resilient Rhinos
This week in maths we have been learning about length. We used our knowledge to problem solve.
Week 5
The children in year 2 were geographers and explored the village of Ironbridge Gorge.
We looked at the features of a gorge (a narrow valley) as well as the human and physical features. We concluded that there were lots of shops, cafes and restaurants in the village due to the number of visitors that come to see the Ironbridge.
Week 4
In Art we have been looking at making colours of different shades. We have been using different materials to explore ideas for our autumn landscape. We have been looking at different artist and how they create their own landscapes.
Week 3
The children in Swallows enjoyed listening to stories read by the pupils of the Junior school from Year 6. It was lovely to see how engaged all the children were; sharing their love for reading.
Week 2: We Love Maths
This Week in Swallows we have been exploring place value in maths and learning to partition 2 digits numbers first using dienes and then drawing them.
Welcome to Year 2!
Hello everyone and welcome! We are so excited to meet you all and to start a wonderful year together in Year 2. Our theme this term is called “A Journey to…..” We will be learning about our local area and the Wrekin. We will also be taking a journey back in time with a visit to Blists Hill.
We look forward to learning, laughter and lots of fun in our journey together in Year 2!
